The sun is shining, the pool is sparkling, now just make sure you stay cool – and safe -- during this season of fun in the sun! Prevent skin cancer by wearing sunscreen with a sun protective factor (SPF) of 15 or higher. If you can, avoid being in direct sunlight during the midday hours, when the sun’s rays are strongest, and seek shade whenever possible.
Hydrate at least one hour before exercising outdoors and keep plenty of nonalcoholic beverages on hand during and following exercise. Don’t wait until you are thirsty to drink! If you love to swim, never swim alone, and wear your helmet on every bicycle ride.
